There’s something truly magical about those first few weeks with a newborn. The yawns, the cuddles, the way you learn to hold your babies – it’s a time that passes by so fast, you wish you could freeze it. That’s why I’m here, in York, to help you hold on to these moments forever.
I’ve always loved photography – photpgraphing friends, family, and everyday moments. But it wasn’t until my daughter was born that I realised just how important those early days are. Our own photoshoot was such a special experience that I wanted to help other families capture that same love and care.
After lots of newborn safety and photography training, plus health and safety courses (I take that stuff seriously!), I opened my home studio right here in York. It’s a cosy, calming space – like a little home away from home – where families can relax, feel safe, and just be.
Being a mum of two myself, and having gone through quite severe postpartum anxiety with my first, I know tough it can be to leave the house with a newborn. That’s why I’m super patient and understanding – there’s no rushing here. We go at your baby’s pace, whether that means a feed, a cuddle, or a snooze.
My studio is filled with natural light, soft neutral tones, and gentle music – no harsh flashes or bright lights. You’ll often hear birds outside, or the trees gently swaying. It’s a peaceful space made just for you and your little one.
I use luxury cashmere wraps in soft whites and beiges, so all the attention stays on your baby, not on busy props or colours. It’s simple, timeless, and elegant – just like your baby.
I completely understand how overwhelming it can feel to get out the door with a newborn – it’s no small feat! That’s why I’ve made sure my studio is stocked with everything you might need, so you can leave the worrying at home.
There’s a wardrobe full of comfy, beautiful clothes for both mum and baby, so if you forget anything or want to change outfits, it’s all there ready for you. I also provide nappies, wipes, breast pads, and other essentials, so you don’t have to bring a thing if you don’t want to.
And of course, there’s always fresh tea, coffee, and even biscuits to keep your energy up during the session.
You’ll find a cosy sofa and postpartum pillows too, perfect for settling in and getting comfortable. My goal is to make your time at the studio feel like a peaceful, supportive little getaway where you can relax while I take care of the rest.
One of the best parts of my job is watching parents soothe, hold, and connect with their baby. I share little tips and tricks during the session that lots of mums and dads say help them feel more confident once they’re home.

‘So thankful to have found Lucy to photograph our daughter. I was last minute in requesting to book Lucy and she rearranged her personal diary to accommodate us! Unbelievably grateful.
The shoot itself was amazing with Lucy putting us at ease the moment we walked in. I cried happy postpartum tears in the studio and cried them all again the day I received my daughter’s gallery of beautiful photo’s. I will be rebooking with Lucy (a little more in advance this time!) for my daughter’s first birthday. Thank you Lucy Rose Studios, you are incredible!’
‘Lucy was amazing; we were so relaxed from start to finish and the session itself was great. Our little one was that little bit older at the time of his newborn shoot, but she was so patient and brilliant with him that we persevered and got some beautiful photos. The gallery we received was everything we wanted so much so that we opted for all of the images because we just couldn’t choose! The communication before and after the shoot was great; I genuinely can’t fault her!’
‘We had a newborn baby shoot with Lucy with our one week old and it was fantastic. Lucy is friendly, professional and understanding making us feel completely comfortable, despite us being nervous and very sleep deprived! The photos were amazing, we would highly recommend her.’

I live in York, and it’s a place that truly holds my heart. There’s something so calming about the city – the gentle rhythm of life here, the historic streets, and the natural beauty all around create the perfect peaceful backdrop for newborn photography.
The soft light that filters through the studio windows seems to carry the spirit of the city, making every session feel like a little moment of calm in a busy world.
What’s really incredible is that families come from all over the UK to have their newborn photos taken here. Some have travelled four hours or more because they want that unique, soothing experience I offer. It’s humbling and inspiring to know that so many parents trust me with these precious first moments, no matter the distance. York’s warmth and charm aren’t just part of the location – they’re part of the experience I create for every family who walks through my door.
